European Commission Approves New Romanian Geographical Indication

The European Commission approved the registration of Brânză frământată de Teaca from Romania as a Protected Geographical Indication. The cheese comes from Teaca in northern Romania and is made from raw cow's milk that is curdled, fermented, aged, salted and kneaded in a pig's bladder, with characteristics relying on craft skills passed down through generations. The designation brings the number of protected names in the eAmbrosia database to more than 3,900.
