    U.S. Updates Seychelles Travel Advisory

    The U.S. Department of State updated its Seychelles travel advisory, keeping the overall Level 1 'Exercise Normal Precautions' but adding Praslin, La Digue and the outer islands as Level 2 'Exercise Increased Caution' due to health risks. These smaller islands lack medical infrastructure to treat common traumas or illnesses, and patients must travel to Mahé by boat or plane for care. The United States has no consular presence in Seychelles; emergency help is handled by the embassy in Port Louis, Mauritius.

    U.S. Raises Mauritius Travel Advisory to Level 2

    The U.S. Department of State raised the Mauritius travel advisory to Level 2 'Exercise Increased Caution' and added a 'crime' risk indicator. Most crimes against foreigners are crimes of opportunity, including pickpocketing, purse snatchings and petty thefts, occurring in crowded outdoor shopping areas, beaches and other tourist spots, as well as near ATMs. Other serious crimes include break-ins, violent crimes (serious assaults, murder, rape) and verbal harassment and other crimes towards women travelling alone.

    U.S. Issues Madagascar Level 2 Travel Advisory

    The U.S. Department of State issued a Level 2 'Exercise Increased Caution' travel advisory for Madagascar due to crime, unrest and health, with some areas at increased risk. Violent crime such as armed robbery and assault occurs throughout the country, particularly after dark, in remote areas and along major national roads in the south and west. Petty crime is common, especially in tourist locations. Strikes and protest activity related to political and economic conditions occur regularly, particularly near elections. Medical infrastructure is very limited in populated areas and extremely limited in rural areas, and serious medical emergencies require medical evacuation.
