Industry alliance calls for EU Digital Omnibus to support biometrics

On October 1, 2026, ACI EUROPE, Amadeus, IATA, IDEMIA Public Security and SITA announced the formation of the Responsible Biometric Travel Industry Alliance. According to messages released by IATA and Amadeus the same day, the alliance calls on EU policymakers to ensure that the Digital Omnibus supports voluntary and secure use of biometrics in travel, while protecting passenger choice and privacy. A message released by SITA the same day further stated that the alliance calls on EU decision-makers to support passengers' voluntary, secure use of biometrics in the Digital Omnibus, while retaining non-biometric alternative options and privacy protection. Progress currently remains at the stage of the alliance's formation and public call; the reports did not mention a response from the EU side or the legislative progress of the bill.
