The "Why the Hanging Temple" live light-and-shadow performance project uses the more than 37,000 square meters of natural cliff face at the Hanging Temple in Hunyuan as its light-and-shadow screen, adhering to the cultural relic protection principle of "zero damage, fully reversible." In June 2026, the project received Guinness World Records certification as the "largest cliff-face light show." A report on November 3, 2026 showed that the project had completed its 2026 season: 305 performances over 143 nights, total box office of 67.3 million yuan, and 980 million total online exposures; the performances drove a 31.7% increase in overnight visitors to Hunyuan County and created 354 stable jobs. The scenic area expects to resume performances in April next year.
