European Commission and European refining industry launch dialogue to safeguard aviation fuel supply
Press remarks by Commissioner Jørgensen following the Dialogue with European refineries
On October 28, 2026, EU Commissioner Jørgensen said after a dialogue with European refineries that the EU has launched a dialogue with the refining industry to address the energy crisis and ensure reliable and affordable fuel supply. He mentioned that about a quarter of EU refineries have closed over the past two decades, with domestic refining capacity falling by about 10%; the International Energy Agency expects the global diesel market to remain tight until 2027. The two sides will continue working at the technical level and will meet again early next year to assess progress, while also developing a joint roadmap for the refining industry's transition.
