UK Civil Aviation Authority publishes report on drone and eVTOL noise management
New UK Civil Aviation Authority report sets out approach to managing drone and eVTOL noise
On 12 October 2026, the UK Civil Aviation Authority published the CAP3304 report, "Managing the Noise of Emerging Aviation Technologies," examining ways to assess and manage noise from drones and eVTOL aircraft. The report notes that although these two types of aircraft are quieter than conventional helicopters, they may operate at lower altitudes and closer to homes, creating noise exposure patterns different from those of conventional aviation. The report sets out priorities including quieter aircraft design, sound noise assessment, appropriate routes and operating procedures, transparent community communication, accessible complaint mechanisms, and systematic collection of operational and noise data.
