Airbnb releases checkout rules policy for hosts

On October 22, 2026, Airbnb announced a new house rules policy, for the first time clearly defining reasonable and unreasonable host checkout requirements. Under the policy, starting November 20, hosts may only choose from seven standard house rules, and are "generally not allowed" to ask guests to wash dishes, strip bedsheets, or take out the trash. The report states this is the first time Airbnb has issued such a policy clearly defining host requirements. The policy has been announced and will take effect starting November 20.
