New York Plaza Hotel to close from 2027 for four-year facade renovation

Reported on October 16, 2026, the New York Plaza Hotel announced it will close from January 2027 for at least four years to carry out repairs on its landmark-protected facade, with the full scope and complexity of the project still being assessed. The hotel, which opened in 1907 and is part of the Fairmont brand under Accor, is located at the southeast corner of Central Park on Fifth Avenue; the closure is partly because the restoration work would severely disrupt operations. According to The New York Times, the hotel's ballroom and Palm Court restaurant will also close in January, and it remains unclear whether residents of the luxury apartments will need to move out.
