Ministry of Culture and Tourism downgraded or revoked the rating of 229 A-level scenic areas in 2024
In 2024, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism downgraded or revoked the quality rating of a total of 229 A-level tourist attractions. From March 1, 2025, the "Classification of Quality Grades of Tourist Attractions" took effect, further raising the threshold for review. Reports from November 2026 show that culture and tourism departments in Inner Mongolia, Anhui and other places have recently successively handled a batch of A-level tourist attractions by cancellation, downgrading and rectification within a time limit, and the dynamic management of A-level scenic areas in which "they can enter and exit" is becoming a new normal in industry governance. The reports said that delisting and downgrading are intended to clear out inefficient supply and force scenic areas to improve quality and upgrade.
