U.S. Keeps Iran at Level 4 'Do Not Travel'

The U.S. Department of State kept Iran at Level 4 'Do Not Travel' due to risks of terrorism, unrest, kidnapping, arbitrary arrest of U.S. citizens and wrongful detention. There is no U.S. embassy in Iran, and the Swiss Embassy's Foreign Interests Section in Tehran is temporarily closed due to the security situation. U.S. nationals face serious risk of wrongful detention, including dual nationals, students, journalists, business travellers, academics and people with U.S. military or government experience. Iranian law allows punishment for 'collaboration with a hostile state', and prior travel to Israel by an Iranian citizen can result in a two-to-five-year prison sentence.
