U.S. Updates Iran Advisory: Routine Consular Services Suspended

The U.S. Department of State updated its Iran travel advisory, keeping it at Level 4 'Do Not Travel' with no change to risk indicators. As of October 15, 2025, routine consular services are no longer available for U.S. citizens in Iran, including full-validity passport applications, Consular Reports of Birth Abroad and fee-based notarial services. The Swiss Protecting Power will continue to provide emergency services when security conditions permit, including emergency passport applications, Consular Reports of Death Abroad, emergency financial assistance, assistance to detained U.S. nationals, and welfare and whereabouts checks.
