U.S. average gasoline price up 29.5% year-over-year in August 2026

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics released motor fuel prices for August 2026. The average price for regular gasoline was $4.06 per gallon, up 3.2% from July and 29.5% from August 2025. Diesel averaged $5.46 per gallon, up 10.2% month-over-month and 45.9% year-over-year. Regional variations are significant, with the West Coast highest at $5.13 and Gulf Coast lowest at $3.61.
