U.S. State Department Issues Sri Lanka Travel Advisory: Level 2 Exercise Increased Caution

The U.S. Department of State has issued a Level 2 travel advisory for Sri Lanka: Exercise Increased Caution due to civil unrest, terrorism, and landmines. Protests can happen at any time, and police have used water cannons and tear gas to disperse protesters. Terrorist attacks may target tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets, government buildings, hotels, and other public areas. Approximately 23 square kilometers of Sri Lanka have landmines left from its civil war, mostly in northern and eastern areas.
