AI Risk to OTAs Is Margin Squeeze, Not Disintermediation

PhocusWire reports that BTIG's study of 250 US leisure travelers found high willingness to use AI tools for planning and booking, but AI platforms remain limited. Over 60% have tried AI, with 76% willing for inspiration, 80% for research, and 65% for itinerary building. 38% would book flights and 42% hotels via AI. BTIG believes AI is more likely a customer acquisition channel than a disintermediation threat, with OTAs well-positioned due to data, marketing spend, and partnerships.
