China Southern C919 Operates First SAF Flight in Greater Bay Area
On the morning of October 30, 2026, China Southern flight CZ3599 completed refueling with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and took off at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. The report states that the flight became the first SAF flight departing from Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, and also the first SAF flight operated by the domestically produced large aircraft C919 in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. SAF is produced from sustainable feedstocks such as waste oils and agricultural and forestry waste; its physical and chemical properties are comparable to conventional aviation kerosene, and after airworthiness certification it can be blended and used at specified ratios without modification to the aircraft, engines, or ground refueling facilities. The current progress is that the above-mentioned first flight has been completed.
