Thai side says it will strengthen Thailand-China coordination to safeguard tourist safety

On October 16, 2026, the Chinese Embassy in Thailand issued a reminder stating that recently there have been multiple cases in Thailand in which Chinese citizens went missing or lost contact after entering the country, were subjected to illegal detention, and were lured and transferred to the Thailand-Myanmar border; some lawbreakers carried out illegal and criminal acts under the guise of high-salary recruitment, business inspections, and investment cooperation. On October 20, Thai Minister of Tourism and Sports Surasak said the Thai side will strengthen coordination among relevant departments and further communicate with the Chinese side in order to raise the level of safety protection for tourists from all countries, including Chinese tourists. At present, the Thai side's statement remains at the level of coordination and communication, and no specific measure details have been announced.
