Shanghai Hu-pai Jiangnan Ancient Town Cultural Tourism Integration and Zhujiajiao Visitor Volume

Reported on October 19, 2026, Shanghai is promoting the cultural tourism integration of ancient towns under the "Hu-pai Jiangnan" identity; on March 1, 2026, the "Shanghai Municipal Regulation on the Protection of Historic and Cultural Towns" took effect, using 12 articles to specifically discuss the inheritance and utilization of ancient towns. The report says that in 2025 Zhujiajiao Ancient Town received 7.572 million visitors, of whom 2.272 million were foreign visitors, accounting for about 30%; Nanxiang Ancient Town reached 6.5 million visitors. Hu-pai Jiangnan ancient towns are transforming into cultural tourism and leisure destinations through living heritage, differentiated business formats of "one town, one product," and a diversified profit model that eliminates the main gate ticket.
