United Launches Status Match to Poach Customers
Airline Wi-Fi Has a Lie-Flat Seat Problem
On October 2, 2026, Skift Feed reported that United launched a frequent flyer status match campaign to attract American Airlines AAdvantage and Delta SkyMiles members to switch, highlighting its onboard Starlink Wi-Fi. Participants must meet spending thresholds within 90 days and fly United flights to obtain status valid until January 2028: Silver $1,500, Gold $3,000, Platinum $4,500, Premier 1K $7,000. A follow-up report the same day said United already has more than 600 aircraft equipped with Starlink, targeting 1,000 by year-end; American Airlines' deployment will not begin until 2027, and Delta chose the Amazon Leo network, which has not yet been verified on commercial flights. The campaign is currently in its rollout phase.
