Hilton Targets Nordic Expansion with Scandic Hotels Deal
On October 19, 2026, Hilton and Scandic Hotels Group, the largest hotel operator in the Nordic region, signed a multi-year development agreement covering the four countries of Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. The first hotel under the agreement is a 284-room Hilton Hotels & Resorts at Scanport next to Copenhagen Airport, franchised by Scandic and expected to open in 2029. On October 21, Business Travel News reported and confirmed the above agreement, and stated that the first project is a newly built 284-room Hilton hotel next to Copenhagen Airport, operated by Scandic under a franchise agreement with Hilton, with plans to open in 2029. On October 22, Skift reported that the two parties announced the agreement on Monday, and that the first confirmed project is the aforementioned 284-room hotel at Scanport next to Copenhagen Airport; apart from Copenhagen, no other hotels have been finalized, and the two parties said subsequent projects will be confirmed as opportunities arise. The cooperation adopts an asset-light franchise model, with Scandic developing and operating the hotels and paying fees to Hilton based on room revenue. The agreement has now been signed, and the first hotel is still awaiting its opening in 2029.
