EU's 2026 Connecting Europe Days Opens in Brussels

From September 28 to October 1, 2026, the European Commission's flagship transport and mobility event "Connecting Europe Days 2026" is being held in Brussels. According to EU Transport News, European Commission President von der Leyen will deliver a speech at the opening ceremony at 14:00 CEST the next day; the event focuses on bottlenecks in the trans-European transport network, transport resilience and military mobility, infrastructure investment, as well as the EU port and industrial maritime strategy, high-speed rail plans and the passengers package, among other topics. On September 29, according to the European Commission Press Corner, von der Leyen delivered a speech at the event, calling for building a true "Transport Union" to complete the trans-European transport network (TEN-T) and promote transport innovation. She mentioned that completing the network could increase Europe's GDP by 2.4% by 2050, equivalent to 467 billion euros; the EU is also proposing more than 50 billion euros for transport in the next long-term budget, more than double the funds currently available.
