El Salvador launches SITA passenger data gateway to pre-screen inbound travelers
El Salvador to process traveler data prior to arrival by flight or cruise, first in Central America
On October 20, 2026, SITA announced that El Salvador's Directorate General of Migration and Foreigners (DGME) has deployed the SITA passenger data gateway, becoming the first country in Central America to process passenger information through a single platform before the arrival of flights and cruise ships. The system integrates identity, travel document, itinerary and booking data submitted by carriers, and combines API, PNR and maritime data, for pre-approving travelers and preventing illegal immigration and transnational crime. The system has been put into use at El Salvador's main airport SAL and will be expanded to ports authorized to berth cruise ships.
