    U.S. Q2 2026 Average Domestic Air Fare Edged Down 0.02% Quarter over Quarter

    The U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported that the average U.S. domestic air fare in Q2 2026 was $436.36, down 0.02% from the inflation-adjusted Q1 2026 fare of $436.45. On an unadjusted basis, the Q2 fare rose 2.0% quarter over quarter, the highest second-quarter and single-quarter fare on BTS record. By trip type, one-way tickets accounted for 45% ($307) and round-trips 55% ($535). Starting in Q3 2025, BTS moved to the OD40 collection program, raising ticket sampling from 10% to 40%; earlier fares remain based on the 10% sample.

    The U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics released the August 2026 Transportation Consumer Price Index. From August 2025 to August 2026, the CPI for all transportation goods and services rose 6.2%. Transportation contributed 30.2% to the 3.4% increase in the price of all goods and services. Gasoline (all types) contributed the most to inflation, rising 27.4% year-over-year and contributing 25.6% to the annual change in the price of all goods and services.     SAP Concur analyzed international air bookings in Concur Travel from Jan 1 to Jun 30, 2025, comparing with the same period in 2024. Global international business travel volume rose 2.6% year over year in H1 2025, up 4.5% in Q1 and 0.6% in Q2. U.S. business travelers paid the most for international flights at $2,675 per ticket on average; Japanese travelers about $1,950; Italian travelers $719.     SAP Concur Data: 2023 Airfare Averaged $770, the Costliest Category

    SAP Concur analyzed 2019 and 2023 Concur Expense data to reveal category shifts. In 2023, average airfare per transaction was $770, up 10% from 2019 and more than three times any other category. Gas saw the largest increase, up 37% from $38 to $59; meals rose 30% to $56; car rental and entertainment each rose 28%; lodging rose 21% to $140; train fares fell 5% to $71. By total spend share, the 'other' category rose from 17% in 2019 to 22%, becoming the largest. By transaction volume, meals, ground transportation and lodging were most common.
