US Airlines Shed 2,783 Jobs in July 2026

U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) data show that U.S. airline industry employment (passenger and cargo combined) fell to 1,037,936 workers in July 2026, down 2,783 (0.27%) from 1,040,719 in June 2026. Scheduled passenger airlines employed 555,559 workers, or 54% of the industry total, losing 1,505 employees in July; cargo airlines employed 477,939 workers, or 46%, losing 1,293, with FedEx down 1,448 jobs. Industry-wide full-time equivalents (FTEs) totaled 892,991, a decrease of 2,289 from June.
