Uruguay: Level 2 Advisory Issued Due to Crime
The U.S. Department of State has issued a Level 2 travel advisory for Uruguay, urging increased caution due to crime. Crime is most prevalent in the departments of Montevideo, Canelones, Maldonado, and Rivera. Violent crimes include homicide, armed robbery, carjacking, and theft. Criminals often operate in pairs on motorcycles, approaching victims with weapons to demand belongings. Armed criminals also target grocery stores, restaurants, financial centers, and small businesses.
