Rural Chinese Residents Make 1.526 Billion Domestic Trips, Spending Tops 1 Trillion Yuan

Data from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism shows that in 2025 rural Chinese residents made 1.526 billion domestic trips, up 22.6% year on year, with spending exceeding 1 trillion yuan, up 21.4%. A China Tourism Academy survey found 81% of rural residents intend to travel, contributing 31.8% of national trip growth. In the first half of 2026, rural residents made 869 million domestic trips, about one quarter of the national total.
