IATA: August air cargo demand grows 4.4% year-on-year

IATA released August 2026 global air cargo data: total demand, measured in cargo tonne-kilometres (CTK), rose 4.4% year-on-year (+5.3% for international operations), while capacity, measured in available cargo tonne-kilometres (ACTK), fell 0.1% (+0.1% international). All regions reported growth, with North American carriers strongest at 6.6%. IATA's chief economist said strong demand and higher load factors helped airlines recoup some exceptionally high fuel costs, with yields rising month-on-month for the first time since April.
