China Railway Hohhot Group reported 551,300 passenger trips during the September 25-27 Mid-Autumn holiday, averaging 183,800 daily and setting a historical record, with the peak day on September 25 at 229,200 trips. To handle combined family-visit and tourism flows, the bureau added three pairs of nighttime high-speed trains from Hohhot and Baotou to Beijing, doubled some short-distance EMU trains within the region, and added five pairs of temporary passenger trains including Baotou to Xi'an.
Turkish Airlines has finalized a deal with Boeing for up to 150 737 MAX aircraft, comprising 100 firm 737-8s and options for 50 more, with substitution rights for the larger 737-10. It is the flag carrier's largest-ever Boeing narrowbody order and the first major fleet decision under new Chairman Murat Seker and CEO Ahmet Olmustur. No delivery timeline was disclosed.
Airports Council International (ACI) World released its 2026 Annual World Airport Traffic Report, showing global airports carried a record 9.8 billion passengers in 2025, with air cargo also hitting an all-time high. The report draws on data from 2,817 commercial airports, capturing an estimated 97% of scheduled global passenger traffic. International traffic drove growth, up 6.1% versus 1.7% for domestic; cargo rose 3.3% and aircraft movements 2.0%. Brazil's National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) updated its August demand and supply report: the sector carried 11.5 million passengers, up 2.5% year on year. Domestic traffic reached 8.9 million passengers (+2.3%) and international traffic 2.5 million (+3.4%). Demand rose 3.3% domestically and 4% internationally, while capacity grew 6.8% domestically and 4.3% internationally. Cargo totalled 121,500 tonnes, up 8.6%, split between 39,500 tonnes domestic (+4%) and 82,000 tonnes international (+10.9%).
China Railway data show 3.32 billion passenger trips in the first eight months, up 3.9% year on year and a record for the period. An average of 11,508 passenger trains ran daily, up 5.0%. On cross-border services, the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed rail carried 23.408 million cross-border passengers, up 10.7%, while the China-Laos railway carried 245,000, up 39.1%. The network handled 16.683 million foreign-national passenger trips, up 33.3%. A total of 2,501 tourist trains ran in the period, including 1,387 dedicated tourist trains and 1,114 tourist route trains.
American Airlines CEO Robert Isom said at the Morgan Stanley Laguna investor conference that the carrier expects to make trade-offs on capacity if fuel prices stay elevated in the long term, with slower growth expected in 2027. He said that if fuel prices remain as high as they are now, adjustments to capacity planning will be required looking ahead. American CFO Devon May said at the same conference that the carrier would adjust capacity.
Etihad Airways CEO Antonoaldo Neves told Skift in an exclusive interview that Africa and China will be its biggest growth markets next year, but a widebody shortage limits how fast it can expand. He said "in the mid-term, aircraft is the constraint" and "we could have had 15 more widebodies today." Etihad has doubled its seats in three years and plans to keep adding capacity as it builds Abu Dhabi into a larger global connecting hub.
The U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) released July 2026 fuel cost and consumption figures for U.S. scheduled service airlines. Total fuel expenditure was $5.89 billion, down 1.8% from $5.99 billion in June 2026 and up 43.0% from $4.12 billion in July 2025. Airlines used 1.732 billion gallons, up 3.8% month over month and down 1.6% year over year. Cost per gallon was $3.40, down 19 cents (5.4%) from June 2026 and up $1.06 (45.4%) from July 2025. Figures are not adjusted for inflation or seasonality.
Ryanair cut its FY27 traffic target by 2 million to 214 million passengers, mainly reducing winter flights to avoid unhedged high fuel prices.
