BTS: U.S. Airlines' July 2026 Fuel Cost Down 1.8% MoM, Consumption Up 3.8%

The U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) released July 2026 fuel cost and consumption figures for U.S. scheduled service airlines. Total fuel expenditure was $5.89 billion, down 1.8% from $5.99 billion in June 2026 and up 43.0% from $4.12 billion in July 2025. Airlines used 1.732 billion gallons, up 3.8% month over month and down 1.6% year over year. Cost per gallon was $3.40, down 19 cents (5.4%) from June 2026 and up $1.06 (45.4%) from July 2025. Figures are not adjusted for inflation or seasonality.
