UK FCDO Updates Thailand Travel Advice: Against Travel to Parts

Key points

• The FCDO updated its Thailand travel advice on September 18, 2026, still advising against all but essential travel to parts of the country.
• It advises against all but essential travel to Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat provinces near the Thailand-Malaysia border, and to the districts of Chana, Thepa, Na Thawi and Saba Yoi in southern Songkhla province.
• The FCDO also advises against all but essential travel on the Hat Yai to Padang Besar train line running through these provinces, due to regular attacks near the border.
• It advises against all but essential travel to areas within 20km of the land border with Cambodia, where fighting occurred in July 2025 and further clashes involving rocket and artillery fire took place in early December.
• Land borders and crossings between Thailand and Cambodia remain suspended.
• Tourist sites close to the border, including the Khao Phra Wihan Preah Vihear, Ta Kwai Ta Krabey and Ta Muen Thom Tamone Thom temples, are closed, and there are unexploded landmines in the area.
• The FCDO notes that travel insurance could be invalidated if travellers go against its advice.
• The update also covers information on the visa exemption scheme, business ownership and deportation.
