6.709 Million Border Crossings During Mid-Autumn Holiday, Up 16.8%

According to the National Immigration Administration's WeChat account, border inspection authorities handled 6.709 million inbound and outbound travellers during this year's Mid-Autumn holiday, averaging 2.236 million per day and up 16.8% on last year's Mid-Autumn period; the single-day peak was on 26 September at 2.342 million. Mainland residents accounted for 3.206 million crossings, up 5.3% year on year; Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residents 2.775 million, up 27.7%; and foreign nationals 728,000, up 37.7%, of whom 247,000 entered visa-free, up 32.7%. Authorities inspected 309,000 inbound and outbound transport vehicles (aircraft, vessels, trains and road vehicles), up 8.6% year on year.
