    ACI 2027 Global Airport Leaders Conference to Be Held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt

    ACI World and ACI-LAC, after concluding the 2026 WAGA in Lima, announced that the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation (EHCAAN) will host the 2027 conference, to be held in Sharm El-Sheikh, co-organized by ACI Africa, with dates set for October 16-22, 2027. The 2026 Lima conference attracted more than 600 executives and over 50 speakers, and ACI expects global passenger traffic to double to 19.8 billion by 2047.

    ACI: Global Airport Passenger Traffic Hits Record 9.8 Billion in 2025

    Airports Council International (ACI) World released its 2026 Annual World Airport Traffic Report, showing global airports carried a record 9.8 billion passengers in 2025, with air cargo also hitting an all-time high. The report draws on data from 2,817 commercial airports, capturing an estimated 97% of scheduled global passenger traffic. International traffic drove growth, up 6.1% versus 1.7% for domestic; cargo rose 3.3% and aircraft movements 2.0%.     US BTS Preliminary Estimates Model Expands to Multiple Transport Metrics

    The US Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) began releasing preliminary estimates (PE) for monthly enplanements in early 2025. The model, which calculates correlations between early indicators and complete historical datasets, provides timely estimates 3-12 months ahead of final audited counts. Over the past year, BTS expanded this regression-based model to additional key transportation metrics: Transit Ridership, Amtrak Ridership, TransBorder Freight, and Vehicle Miles Traveled. Each metric uses lead indicators including TSA checkpoint data, Amtrak station-level figures, the Census Bureau FT900 report, FTA National Transit Database, and FHWA Traffic Volume Trends.

    June 2026 U.S. airline traffic down 1.4% year on year

    U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) data show U.S. airlines carried 87.5 million systemwide (domestic and international) scheduled service passengers in June 2026, down 1.4% year on year and 2.5% below the all-time June high of 89.7 million in 2024. Domestic passengers totalled 75.5 million and international 12 million. Seasonally adjusted, June enplanements fell 0.4% from May and 3.7% below the all-time high reached in June 2024. BTS notes the data may be revised and are statistical observations, not real-time passenger counts.

    Air Passenger Demand Grows 0.2% in July

    IATA data shows that in July 2026, global passenger demand (RPK) increased 0.2% year-on-year, capacity (ASK) increased 0.3%, and load factor was 85.2%. International demand fell 0.1%, domestic demand grew 0.6%. Middle East demand fell 10%, North America fell 1.2%, Asia-Pacific grew 1.0%, Europe grew 2.1%.

    Amadeus Report: Europe Sees Resilient Growth

    Amadeus and UN Tourism released the 'Travel Insights 2026: Focus on Europe' report. Between May 2025 and April 2026, European passenger traffic grew 2.3% year-over-year, hotel occupancy rose 2%, and ADR increased 7%. Japan emerged as Europe's fastest-growing long-haul source market, with searches up 62% and bookings up 19%. Czechia and Iceland were among the fastest-growing booked destinations. Travelers aged 46-65 account for about 30% of all travel demand in Europe. Nearly half of bookings are made more than a month in advance.

    ACI World Reveals 2025 Rankings of the World's Busiest Airports

    ACI World published its 2025 rankings of the world's busiest airports on 14 April 2026. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport retained the top spot for total passengers with 106.3 million, followed by Dubai International and Tokyo Haneda; Chicago O'Hare ranked first for aircraft movements. Global total passengers are estimated at 9.8 billion in 2025, up 3.6% year over year; international passengers reached 4.0 billion, up 5.9%; air cargo rose 2.9% to almost 128.9 million metric tonnes. Shanghai Pudong posted the biggest jump in the top 10, rising from 10th to 5th.

    Amadeus and UN Tourism released the Travel Insights 2025: Focus on the Americas report, drawing on Amadeus Navigator360 data. Air traffic across the Americas rose 1.8% year on year from July 2024 to June 2025, with South America (+6%) and Central America (+4%) leading capacity expansion. The Americas welcomed 217 million international arrivals in 2024, generating about USD 451 billion in international tourism export revenues including passenger transport. Mexico, Argentina and Colombia ranked among top origin markets, while China and Japan posted the highest search growth to the region at +143% and +32% respectively.
