    ACI 2027 Global Airport Leaders Conference to Be Held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt

    ACI World and ACI-LAC, after concluding the 2026 WAGA in Lima, announced that the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation (EHCAAN) will host the 2027 conference, to be held in Sharm El-Sheikh, co-organized by ACI Africa, with dates set for October 16-22, 2027. The 2026 Lima conference attracted more than 600 executives and over 50 speakers, and ACI expects global passenger traffic to double to 19.8 billion by 2047.

    European Commission announces nearly €710 million for displaced people in Africa

    European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, as the 81st UN General Assembly High Level Week closed in New York, announced almost €710 million in EU support for displaced people and communities in Sub-Saharan Africa, plus emergency assistance for people affected by crises worldwide. The announcement was made as part of international advocacy organisation Global Citizen's campaign.

    EU Launches Global Health Resilience Initiative

    The EU launched its Global Health Resilience Initiative in New York, calling for uniting Europe's investments, partnerships and expertise to address global health challenges. From 2021 to 2025, the EU mobilized over EUR 6 billion in global health funding and, with the WHO, supports stronger health systems in 115 countries. Through Global Gateway, the EU and its Member States mobilized more than EUR 2 billion for regional manufacturing of vaccines, medicines and health technologies in Africa, with production sites taking shape in Senegal, Ghana, Nigeria, Rwanda and South Africa.

    Uganda Airlines First African Carrier to Deploy Amadeus SkyWORKS

    Uganda Airlines has signed a new deal with Amadeus, becoming the first African carrier to deploy Amadeus SkyWORKS. The flight schedule development solution provides an integrated workbench with powerful editing, real-time feasibility checks, and reporting/distribution capabilities, increasing efficiency and flexibility. Uganda Airlines' CCO said the solution will accelerate growth in East Africa and beyond. Amadeus noted existing collaboration on Altéa, revenue, and loyalty management, now deepened to schedule management.

    U.S. State Department: Lesotho at Level 2, Exercise Increased Caution

    The U.S. Department of State has issued a Level 2 "Exercise Increased Caution" advisory for Lesotho, citing crime and health. Crime is common in Lesotho, with armed robberies and carjackings occurring from time to time, and local police may not have enough resources to respond quickly. Lesotho's health infrastructure is inadequate; health facilities, services, hygiene, and quality control do not meet U.S. standards of care, and pharmacies are neither well-regulated nor well stocked, with locally available medications potentially unsafe. Travelers have the option to enter South Africa for health services.

    The U.S. Department of State updated the advisory summary for Senegal with no changes to the advisory level or risk indicators. The country remains at Level 1 (Exercise Normal Precautions), while the Casamance region is at Level 2 (Exercise Increased Caution) due to crime and landmines. U.S. embassy personnel may only travel in Casamance on main roads and during daylight hours. Separatist rebel groups operate in the region and bandits sometimes commit armed robbery; landmines and unexploded ordnance from prior conflicts exist primarily in border and rural areas, and their locations are often unknown, unmarked or hard to recognize.
