EU Opens Consultation on Non-OECD Countries Authorised to Receive EU Waste After May 2027

The European Commission has launched a public consultation on a draft list of non-OECD countries that could be authorised to import non-hazardous waste from the EU after May 2027 under the Waste Shipment Regulation. Adopted in 2024, the regulation introduces stricter rules: from 21 May 2027, the EU will export waste to non-OECD countries only if they explicitly request to continue receiving it and demonstrate sustainable management.
