Hyatt CEO on Lessons From Owning Hotels and the Trend He's Most Excited About

Speaking at the Skift Global Forum in New York City, Hyatt Chairman, President and CEO Mark Hoplamazian addressed hotel owners' pushback over costs and fees, saying the company's response comes down to mindset. He noted that for 67 of Hyatt's almost 70 years the company was the largest owner of its own hotels, so during Covid it faced the same crisis as owners in its portfolio; the estimated break-even occupancy for some larger hotels was about 43%, cut to 22% within six months, after which Hyatt shared the full playbook with its biggest third-party owner, Host Hotels.
