RV Camping Industry Heats Up, Emerging as a New Highlight in Cultural Tourism Consumption

Xinhua reports that RV camping is moving from a niche hobby to mass consumption. China's self-propelled RV sales exceeded 20,000 units for the first time in 2025, with camper van sales up 85.61% year-on-year and new energy RV sales up 229%. In the first half of this year, cumulative registrations of self-propelled RVs exceeded 12,000 units, up 32.6% year-on-year. There are now more than 3,100 RV campsites nationwide. Nine departments including the Ministry of Commerce explicitly support RV camping industry development. The industry still faces constraints including difficulty entering cities, less than 1% of drivers holding C6 licences, and cumbersome campsite land approval.
