Fifth Shanxi Arts Festival Opens for One-Month Run

• On September 11, the Fifth Shanxi Arts Festival opened at the Shanxi Grand Theatre, with the drama "Children of Jin-Sui" performed after the opening ceremony, launching a month-long arts programme.
• The festival is co-hosted by the Publicity Department of the Shanxi Provincial Party Committee, the Shanxi Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, the Taiyuan Municipal Party Committee and the Taiyuan Municipal Government, and comprises four sections — performances, exhibitions, academic activities and extended activities — with 15 special events.
• The performance section includes 51 shows spanning drama, dance drama, opera, symphony and concerts, as well as Peking opera, Jin opera, Pu opera, Shangdang Bangzi and Beilu Bangzi.
• The exhibition section brings together more than 800 fine art and calligraphy works, including the "Mountains and Rivers" Shanxi outstanding painting and calligraphy invitational exhibition and the "Murals in Color" Shanxi mural masterpieces special exhibition.
• Extended activities such as an online arts festival, arts lectures and a citizens' arts season are open to the public, and the festival is implementing low-ticket-price measures.
