    Brazil ANAC publishes August average domestic airfare of BRL 776.87

    Brazil's National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) published its August airfare panel data on 22 September 2026. The real average fare across all routes and all carriers was BRL 776.87 per segment, up 14.5% versus August 2025 and 15.1% versus August 2024, in August 2025 values adjusted by IPCA. Jet fuel (QAV) averaged BRL 4.98 per litre, up 31.8% year on year and 10.4% versus August 2024. The fare methodology covers only the air transport price paid, excluding ancillary services such as baggage and seat selection and boarding fees, and excludes tickets with discounts not available to the general public, including award tickets, corporate fares and airline employee tickets.     US Airlines Post $16 Million Q2 2026 Net Gain, Down Sharply Year on Year

    Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) data show the 22 scheduled US passenger airlines reported a Q2 2026 after-tax net gain of $16 million and a pre-tax operating profit of $3.0 billion, versus a $4.0 billion after-tax net gain and $5.0 billion pre-tax operating gain in Q2 2025. Total Q2 2026 operating revenue was $75.6 billion, with fares at $55.9 billion (73.9% of revenue); total operating expenses were $72.6 billion. Domestic operations posted a $484 million after-tax net loss, while international operations posted a $500 million after-tax net gain. Systemwide net margin fell to 0.0% and operating margin to 4.0%.

    JetBlue Unveils New Domestic First Class Seats

    JetBlue has unveiled BlueFirst, its new domestic first class product, featuring 2x2 cabins with memory foam seats, seven extra inches of legroom, and up to five inches of recline. The A220 and A320 will have 12 seats, while the A321 will have 16. Amenities include 13.3-inch seatback screens, custom cocktails, bento-box meals, priority boarding, and expedited security. Bookings open in the fall, with the first aircraft debuting later this year and full fleet retrofit expected by 2028. The move aims to reverse six consecutive years of losses.

    OAG: Jeju-Seoul Gimpo is the world's busiest airline route in 2025

    OAG released its ranking of 2025's busiest airline routes. Jeju (CJU) to Seoul Gimpo (GMP) is the world's busiest route in 2025 with 14.4 million seats scheduled, up 1% versus 2024 but still 17% below 2019 capacity, with seven carriers operating the route. The second and third routes are both in Japan: Sapporo New Chitose-Tokyo Haneda (12.1 million seats) and Fukuoka-Tokyo Haneda (11.5 million seats). The top 10 comprises entirely domestic flights, with nine of ten in Asia Pacific; the only non-Asia Pacific route is fifth-placed Jeddah-Riyadh with 9.8 million seats, up 13% year-on-year, the fastest growth in the top ten.
