    China's Culture Ministry Briefs on Poetry Festival and Peking Opera Festival

    On September 20, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism held its third-quarter 2026 routine press conference, briefing on the 8th China Poetry Festival and the 11th China Peking Opera Festival. The poetry festival runs October 12-23 under the theme "Poetry Surging from Mountains and Seas, Poetic China," opening in Tiantai County, Zhejiang, and closing in the Taizhou Prefecture City cultural tourism area in Linhai, with four fusion scenarios: poetry+opera, poetry+cuisine, poetry+tourism and poetry+AI. The Peking Opera festival runs October 15-November 5 in Wuhan, Hubei, with seven main activities, and its outstanding-repertoire showcase will select 20 productions nationwide.

    China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism released the 15th Five-Year Plan for Cultural Industry Development, setting overall requirements, key tasks and safeguards for the period. The plan aims for a leap in the scale, overall strength and comprehensive benefits of the cultural industry by 2030, and sets out seven task areas: raising supply efficiency, strengthening technology-enabled innovation, upgrading consumption, energising market entities, deepening industrial integration, optimising the development layout, and strengthening cultural trade. Cultural and tourism authorities at all levels are required to organise implementation according to local conditions.
