    BTS Adjusts Some Release Dates, Citing Appropriations Lapses and Workforce Reductions

    The U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) is adjusting its release schedule under 5 CFR Part 1321, saying multiple lapses in appropriations and workforce reductions at other federal agencies have delayed some regular data input deliveries, pushing some statistical products later than planned. Affected releases include April 2026 transportation sector unemployment, average air fares for Q4 2025 and Q1 2026, and June 2026 domestic and international airline traffic data.

    June 2026 U.S. airline traffic down 1.4% year on year

    U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) data show U.S. airlines carried 87.5 million systemwide (domestic and international) scheduled service passengers in June 2026, down 1.4% year on year and 2.5% below the all-time June high of 89.7 million in 2024. Domestic passengers totalled 75.5 million and international 12 million. Seasonally adjusted, June enplanements fell 0.4% from May and 3.7% below the all-time high reached in June 2024. BTS notes the data may be revised and are statistical observations, not real-time passenger counts.

    BTS: U.S. Airlines' July 2026 Fuel Cost Down 1.8% MoM, Consumption Up 3.8%

    The U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) released July 2026 fuel cost and consumption figures for U.S. scheduled service airlines. Total fuel expenditure was $5.89 billion, down 1.8% from $5.99 billion in June 2026 and up 43.0% from $4.12 billion in July 2025. Airlines used 1.732 billion gallons, up 3.8% month over month and down 1.6% year over year. Cost per gallon was $3.40, down 19 cents (5.4%) from June 2026 and up $1.06 (45.4%) from July 2025. Figures are not adjusted for inflation or seasonality.

    MCT: 6,129 Star-Rated Hotels Passed Data Review in Q3 2024

    China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism (Market Management Department) published the Q3 2024 national star-rated tourist hotel statistical survey report. It says 6,129 star-rated tourist hotels had their data approved by provincial culture and tourism authorities in Q3 2024. The report covers overall conditions, regional conditions, conditions in 50 key tourist cities and year-on-year comparisons, with attached operating and average-indicator tables. Provinces and cities with a reporting rate below 60% are excluded from specific rankings.

    MCT: China's Travel Agencies Reached 62,766 in Q3 2024

    China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism (Market Management Department) published the Q3 2024 national travel agency statistical survey report. As of Sept. 30, 2024, there were 62,766 travel agencies nationwide in Q3, with a data review completion rate of 92.75%, and 27 regions above the national level. The report discloses domestic, inbound and outbound market data: domestic tourism organized 34.6922 million person-trips and 107.1058 million person-days; inbound tourism outreach 597,100 person-trips and 2.2694 million person-days; outbound tourism organized 3.7302 million person-trips and 18.5487 million person-days.
