    Air India Incoming CEO Tells Staff to Focus on Safety, Reliability and Profit

    Air India's incoming CEO Tewolde Gebremariam told employees at his first company-wide townhall that after four years of getting bigger, the airline now needs to get better and more profitable. Gebremariam, former Ethiopian Airlines chief, is yet to formally assume the CEO and managing director role and is awaiting necessary regulatory approvals. Air India has spent the past four years rebuilding under Tata Group ownership, including a major aircraft order, fleet and product modernisation, technology upgrades, completing the Vistara merger and integrating other airlines.

    India Weighs Pros and Cons of Letting Airport Operators Own Airlines

    India's Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu said the government is weighing the pros and cons of allowing airport operators to own airlines, but has yet to make a decision. The issue emerged after Adani Airport Holdings sought a waiver from the Airports Authority of India from restrictions that prevent the operator of Mumbai Airport from holding more than a 10% stake in a scheduled airline.

    Outgoing Air India CEO Campbell Wilson to Join Air New Zealand Board

    Air New Zealand has appointed former Air India CEO Campbell Wilson to its board, effective from the annual shareholders' meeting on September 24, subject to shareholder approval. Wilson brings over three decades of airline experience, including more than two decades at Singapore Airlines and as founding CEO of low-cost carrier Scoot. His tenure at Air India included a 470-aircraft order and the Vistara merger, but also faced delivery delays and the June 2025 Flight 171 crash.
