    Amadeus Data: Chicago and New York Marathons Lift Air and Hotel Demand

    Amadeus Travel Intelligence data shows rising air and hotel demand around the October Chicago Marathon and November New York Marathon. Domestic air bookings rise 13% for Chicago and 45% for New York in race weeks. Chicago race-weekend hotel occupancy is 85.9% at an ADR of $364, up 1.8% and 10.2% year on year; New York occupancy is 58.1%, down 0.7%, while ADR rises 12.4% to $369. International source markets including India, Brazil, Sweden and Italy grow, while Texas and the Sunbelt lead domestic growth.

    India's Domestic Tourism Boom May Be Its Biggest Inbound Problem

    Skift reports that Suman Billa, additional secretary at India's Ministry of Tourism, told the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) annual convention that domestic tourism success is masking India losing ground in inbound tourism, and that India risks becoming too comfortable relying on its vast domestic market. Billa pointed to a widening gap between inbound and outbound travel, arguing India is effectively a net foreign-exchange loser from tourism, with outbound growth at 4.8%, much higher than inbound. The report adds that India is becoming more expensive and crowded while its international marketing muscle has shrunk dramatically.

    Amadeus and UN Tourism Report: Momentum Builds in Latin America's Travel Market

    Amadeus and UN Tourism released the Travel Insights 2025: Focus on the Americas report, drawing on Amadeus Navigator360 data. Air traffic across the Americas rose 1.8% year on year from July 2024 to June 2025, with South America (+6%) and Central America (+4%) leading capacity expansion. The Americas welcomed 217 million international arrivals in 2024, generating about USD 451 billion in international tourism export revenues including passenger transport. Mexico, Argentina and Colombia ranked among top origin markets, while China and Japan posted the highest search growth to the region at +143% and +32% respectively.

    The Travel Insights 2025: Focus on the Americas report by Amadeus and UN Tourism shows Mexico emerging as a leading destination and international air hub. Air traffic across the Americas rose 1.8% year on year, and Mexico's searches grew 22%, ranking it among the top five origin markets. North American hotel occupancy reached 74% by June 2025, with Mexico's ADR under USD 140. Mexico is attracting new long-haul routes from Asia and Latin America, while the U.S. still accounts for over 80% of new air routes in North America.
