The Bureau of Transportation Statistics released its monthly update to National Transportation Statistics, covering transportation network, safety, economic impact, and energy use. New data include number of air carriers, flight on-time performance, baggage handling, highway-rail grade crossing safety, distracted driving laws, alcohol-related crashes, seat belt use, GDP, transportation revenues, median weekly earnings, and greenhouse gas emissions.
As regional theme parks struggle with attendance declines, debt pressures, and closures, Dollywood is defying the trend. Following the death of founder Dolly Parton, the park reaffirmed its $500 million expansion to become a year-round destination. Unlike competitors relying on licensed IP, Dollywood differentiates through authentic Appalachian culture and Parton's brand. Its financial strength enabled co-owner Herschend to acquire multiple regional parks, and it drives $1.8 billion in direct economic impact and over 23,000 jobs in Sevier County.
Research by Booking.com and Oxford Economics shows that travel booked through Booking.com supported €691 billion in economic activity across Europe in 2025, comparable to Belgium's GDP. Visitor spending of €291 billion supported 4.7 million jobs and €175 billion in wages. Launched at VivaTech 2026, the study highlights the importance of digital platforms for SMEs.
A new GBTA study reveals that U.S. business travel spending reached $538.5 billion in 2024, generating $623.8 billion in economic impact, accounting for 2.1% of GDP, supporting 6.7 million jobs, and contributing $148.6 billion in tax revenue. Meetings and events accounted for 40.4% of total spending. Business travel has a multiplier effect, with each dollar generating $1.16 in GDP. The study covers all 50 states, with California, New York, Florida, Texas, and Illinois leading in spending.
