    7,000 union hotel workers in Chicago authorize strike

    More than 7,000 Chicago hotel workers with Unite Here Local 1 voted 85% to authorize a strike over better wages and benefits.     Marriott and SomeraRoad announced plans for The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Brooklyn Heights, at the former Hotel Bossert, with construction expected to start later this year and completion anticipated in 2029. 1 Hotels opened 1 Hotel Austin inside the 74-story Waterline, Texas' tallest tower, with 252 rooms and more than 10,000 square feet of meetings and events space.     Union workers at Seattle Hilton reach deal to end 85-day strike

    Union workers at the Embassy Suites Pioneer Square in Seattle ratified a new contract with Hilton after an 85-day strike. Beginning Jan. 1, 2027, housekeepers' starting pay will be $31.03 an hour, a 6.9% first-year increase and 23.3% over four years; employees working at least 1,250 hours a year receive year-round healthcare coverage; and the union gains a new enforcement mechanism for emergencies affecting immigrant workers, a first for Hilton nationwide. Workers returned Sept. 15. The union calls it the longest hotel strike in Washington state history.
