    JTB and Tourism Malaysia Sign MOC to Promote Travel

    JTB and Tourism Malaysia signed a memorandum of cooperation (MOC) to jointly stimulate and expand Japanese outbound travel to Malaysia under the Visit Malaysia 2026-2027 campaign. The cooperation runs from September 2026 to December 2027 and focuses on four pillars: media promotion, familiarization trips for JTB sales staff, digital content and social media outreach, and growth of group travel including MICE and educational trips. The two sides also plan measures such as two-way charter flights, with 2027 marking the 70th anniversary of Japan-Malaysia diplomatic relations.

    IHG Accelerates Malaysia Expansion with Garner Hotels and Franchise Model

    IHG signed a two-hotel portfolio agreement with King Park Hotel Sdn. Bhd, launching its franchise model and midscale conversion brand Garner in Malaysia for the first time. The 202-room Garner Hotel Kota Kinabalu will be rebranded from King Park Hotel Kota Kinabalu, with 106 rooms opening in 2027 and 96 more in a second phase in 2029; the 140-room Holiday Inn Express Tawau will open in 2028 after refurbishment, becoming IHG's first hotel in Tawau.

    Malaysian Travellers Become Largest Foreign Source of Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Rail

    Data from the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail shows that from January to August this year more than 105,000 Malaysian travellers rode the line, about 40% of foreign passengers in the period. Since operations began through August 2026, Malaysian passengers made 403,626 cumulative trips, the most among foreign nationalities and 42.8% of the 944,087 total foreign passenger trips.     Agoda Data: Malaysians Seek More Ways to Get Away at Year-End

    Agoda released Malaysia December accommodation search data showing Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and Malacca remain the six most-searched domestic destinations. Kuantan and Kuala Terengganu are gaining interest, Sibu entered the domestic top 20, and Johor Bahru and Port Dickson moved higher.     IHG expands voco hotels to Muar, Malaysia

    IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed voco Muar, marking its debut in the Johor riverside town and introducing the first international-branded hotel to the destination.
