    '3 Days Off for 13' Boosts Holiday Lodging as Huazhu Bookings Rise

    With only three working days between Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day in 2026, the '3 days off for 13' leave strategy has created a super-long golden week, pushing the lodging market into an early booking boom. As of September 21, Huazhu Group data showed overall hotel booking rates for September 25 to October 7 rose about 2 percentage points year on year, with room nights up 22%. Top 10 first- and second-tier cities include Beijing, Shanghai and Nanjing; top 10 third- and fourth-tier destinations include Luoyang, Yangzhou and Guilin; top 10 county destinations include Jiuzhaigou, Yangshuo and Antu.

    Tongcheng Travel data shows that as of 23 September 2026, university students' share of travel product bookings during the Mid-Autumn and National Day period rose about 10 percentage points year on year. Student flight booking heat rose over 45% year on year, with first-time flyers exceeding 30%; hotel and homestay bookings rose over 38%; and attraction ticket bookings rose 27%. Dozens of Chinese universities combined the two holidays into a 13-day break, driving hometown visits, campus-area micro-vacations and long-haul cross-province trips. Tongcheng also upgraded its domestic 'first-flight无忧' service to 58 partner airports with 237 convenience services.

    Thailand Sees Chinese Booking Surge Ahead of Golden Week

    As China's Mid-Autumn and National Day holidays approach, Thailand's tourism market is seeing a booking peak from Chinese travelers. Trip.com Group data shows Phuket flight bookings up 78% year-on-year, bookings of 7+ nights up 123%, and multi-destination trips up 84%. The Tourism Authority of Thailand forecasts about 250,000 Chinese visitors from Sept 25 to Oct 7, up 24%, generating roughly THB 11.5 billion, up 37%. As of Sept 10, Thailand had received about 3.6415 million Chinese visitors in 2026, remaining China's largest source market.

    Tongcheng Report: Mid-Autumn and National Day Long-Haul and Multi-Country Travel Rise

    Tongcheng Travel released its 2026 Mid-Autumn and National Day travel trend forecast. As of September 14, searches for 'Mid-Autumn' and 'National Day' rose 278% month on month, flight bookings to popular domestic cities grew over 40% year on year, and hotel stays of five days or more increased about 7 percentage points. Southwest and Northwest long-haul travel led with related product bookings up over 30% year on year; outbound small-group and customized tours saw per-capita spending rise over 20%. County-level travel product bookings grew 42% year on year, while multi-country tour bookings rose over 65%.
