Booking.com released its "Turbulence Test" research, based on a July 2026 survey of 1,253 U.S. adults. 35% of travelers say they discovered a companion was not compatible after traveling together, 35% have argued over money, 28% have considered ending the relationship or friendship, and 21% have bailed midway through a trip because of a bad travel partner (26% among Millennials). Travelers rate travel compatibility at an average importance of 74.1 out of 100, with 32% rating it 90 or higher.
Amadeus released 'The New Rules of Travel Protection' report, surveying 3,000 travelers. 74% of global travelers purchase protection at least once a year, and 58% consider it essential for all trips. Bundling increases purchase rates from 43% to 58%. Travelers prefer coverage tailored to specific trips, such as medical, cancellation, luggage delay.
Phocuswright research defines 'indulgent explorers' as a high-value traveler segment that over-indexes on longer trips, higher in-destination spend, and premium components. Nearly three-quarters take multiple qualifying trips per year. Notably, 30% have household income under $100k and 26% have net worth under $100k, suggesting indulgence often reflects prioritization. They value safety, food quality, and privacy, with service being the top factor making a trip 'worth it.'
Phocuswright report shows APAC travel market expected to reach $522.7 billion by 2028. Traveler behavior is returning to seasonality, booking windows shorten, flexibility and independent travel increase. Destinations like Japan and China grow strongly, India emerges as key outbound market.
