Airbnb CEO: Rebuilding as an AI-Native Company

At the Skift Global Forum, Airbnb co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky said the company chose to rebuild around AI rather than layer it onto the existing business. He called AI an existential risk to Airbnb and also its growth engine, accelerating growth and share gains from OTAs and hotels. Airbnb shipped over 600 features this year, nearly twice last year's pace, and nearly half of customer service tickets are now handled by AI in 50 languages. Chesky also said Airbnb will launch its own agent and will eventually welcome chain hotels including Marriott and Hilton.

Virgin Atlantic CEO: Don't Make Customers Pay More for SAF Without the Environmental Benefit

Virgin Atlantic CEO Corneel Koster said at the Skift Global Forum in New York that increasing mandates on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) while supply continues to lag is not tenable for the airline industry. He noted that the U.K. SAF mandate requires the fuel to make up 2% of the country's jet fuel demand, eventually rising to 22%, but there isn't enough SAF available.

Hilton CEO: AI-Driven Project RISE Targets 75-100 Basis Points Owner Margin Improvement

Hilton President & CEO Christopher Nassetta said at Skift Global Forum that the company launched Project RISE in mid-2025, targeting 75 to 100 basis points of owner margin improvement through AI and process redesign. He stressed that AI-driven efficiency should be a recurring program, not a one-off cut, and revealed Hilton scrapped its entire legacy technology stack seven or eight years ago to maintain agility. Nassetta also noted that non-residential fixed investment exceeded 10% in Q2 2026, giving the industry room for structural cost improvements, but the AI infrastructure spending cycle has not yet peaked, with winners and losers expected.

Expedia Bets AI Agents Won't Own the Entire Booking Journey

Speaking at Skift Global Forum 2026, Expedia Group CEO Ariane Gorin said she wants to work with the newest generation of AI agents, including Meta's new agent Muse, but does not believe any single agent can take over the entire travel journey. Expedia had revealed on Tuesday that it would be available on Muse; its X post said only that users can tell Muse where they are headed and it can work with Expedia to sort hotels and everything in between, without detailing how it works. Gorin, participating via remote video, did not elaborate on the partnership but said she personally does not believe a large portion of bookings will become an end-to-end conversational experience, since travel plann…

Hilton's CEO on Why the Fundamentals Still Win in the AI Era

In an interview ahead of Skift Global Forum 2026, Hilton President and CEO Christopher Nassetta argues that AI changes the gatekeeper but not the fundamentals of winning guests. His thesis: delivering reliable, friendly stays generates positive reviews that feed into AI models, while Hilton builds its own AI capabilities (Hilton AI Planner) and a proprietary tech stack to control the recommendation layer. He frames Hilton's 28-brand portfolio and Hilton Honors as the right architecture for a fragmenting market, and points to renewed midweek business travel from SMBs broadening demand beyond luxury, signaling healthier, more durable growth. He also emphasizes culture as a competitive input a…

Loyalty initiatives include High Five Rewards and status matching for British Airways Club members, attracting over 10,000 members.
