It reviews the progress of each corridor, remaining investment needs and infrastructure compliance, and identifies bottlenecks that need to be eliminated as soon as possible. The European Maritime Space work plan focuses on ports, maritime connections and their integration with the broader European transport network; the ERTMS work plan was published in February and covers the current status and challenges of deployment across the entire TEN-T rail network.
IATA released global passenger demand data for August 2026. Total demand, measured in revenue passenger kilometers (RPK), fell 0.8% year-on-year; excluding the Middle East, it grew 0.6%. Total capacity (ASK) rose 0.3% year-on-year, and the load factor was 85.1%, down 0.9 percentage points year-on-year; Middle East carriers' demand fell 14.6% year-on-year, interrupting the previous improving trend.

The U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) released data showing that the average U.S. domestic airfare in the second quarter of 2026 was $445, up 2.0% from the inflation-adjusted $436 in the first quarter of 2026. By trip type, one-way tickets accounted for 45%, with an average price of $312; round-trip tickets accounted for 55%, with an average price of $549. BTS also stated that starting from the third quarter of 2025, airfare sampling changed from 10% to 40% (the OD40 program); previously, fares were still based on 10% sampling, and because multiple airlines resubmitted data, the data released this time has been updated.

The Commission says the EU's existing migration framework has delivered results, with illegal border crossings at their lowest level since 2021, but recent events—including this summer's Ceuta crisis—have tested the borders and shown that tools must evolve for emergency situations. The plan builds on the January 2026 European Strategy on Asylum and Migration and is guided by five key areas set out by President von der Leyen, stressing that external border protection is a shared European responsibility.

EU Energy Commissioner Jørgensen said at the Informal Energy Council press conference in Dublin that months after the Iran conflict began, Europe still faces an energy price crisis, with little progress around the Strait of Hormuz and highly volatile prices. Since the war started, the EU has paid over EUR 100 billion extra for fossil fuel imports without receiving a single extra molecule of energy. No immediate winter supply risks are seen, but citizen bills and fuel prices remain a strain. He outlined a two-fold strategy: doubling down on the clean transition and structural reform while flexibly helping member states, companies and citizens, including considering lowering the gas storage f…
